Rafal Modrzejewski, the General Director of the Finnish company ICEYE, which specializes in space technology and the development of artificial satellites, confirmed that the joint project with Space42 on the production of radar artificial satellites in the UAE is a significant step towards strengthening the capabilities of domestic satellite production. The collaboration will allow for the creation and launch of artificial satellites at the local level within an integrated production system.
In an interview with the Emirates News Agency (WAM), Modrzejewski noted that the assembly, integration, and testing (AIT) facilities of Space42, as well as operations in low Earth orbit (LEO) in Abu Dhabi, will become the main center for the production and launch of artificial satellites, strengthening the UAE's position in the space sector. He added that the UAE has made significant progress in the space sector and the technologies of artificial satellites, having a clear strategy for strengthening its place as a global center for innovation in space.
Modrzejewski emphasized that ICEYE closely collaborates with UAE authorities for the development of joint space projects and the provision of cutting-edge solutions in the field of security and space technology. The company is exploring opportunities to collaborate with UAE incubators and accelerators to strengthen the space innovation ecosystem, and is also working on preparing Emirati engineers together with Space42 for acquiring practical experience in artificial satellite production and technologies of terrestrial monitoring.
According to Modrzejewski, the development of Emirati talent is a key component of the government’s strategy for developing the space sector. He emphasized that ICEYE pays special attention to training national personnel in the field of artificial satellites, artificial intelligence, and data analysis.
